Computer Engineer Hourly Rate

Until recent times, when the entire world was hit by the economic recession, the computer software industry had been flourishing. Computer engineering was in great demand as a highly lucrative profession. However, this is also the first industry to have been affected by the recession.

As international deals stopped and budgets became tight, there were several pay cuts or worse loss of job in this industry.

Nevertheless, there is still demand for computer engineers today. This is because there is a high need for talent which can handle advanced computer systems and the changing complex nature of digital information. There are various fields in which computer engineers are employed. A few of these are: Computer Systems Design and Related Services, Software Publishers, Computer and Peripheral Equipment Manufacturing and so on.

Computer Engineers may be offered different hourly rates depending on their type of employment and also the organization. However, the United States Department of Labor had come up with Occupational Employment Statistics for the same. The lowest 10 percent make just about $27.80 per hour, while the average 50 percent makes not less than $44.44 per hour. This is a stark contrast from the $54.79 that 75 percent earn and the $65.28 that 90 percent of the population earns.

Generally, those in Computer and Peripheral Equipment Manufacturing earn a high rate of $49.60. States like Massachusetts and Virginia have the highest concentration of workers from the computer and systems software industry with more than 70 percent of the population employed.
