History Of IBM Computer Keyboard Engineering
The history of IBM Computers dates back to 1975 when the IBM 5100 Portable Computer was built by the General Systems Division of IBM. But actual history was created in 1981, when the IBM Personal Computer was announced, priced at $1,565. This was the first IBM Computer to be designed for the average common man. |
It could process information faster than other machines, and also be used in connection with the TV, play games and so on.
It was here that IBM’s remarkable engineering started, as it took only 1 year to produce the IBM PC, a feat, which till then had never been done before in hardware manufacturing.
The IBM Keyboard was also a wonder then. It contained 83 keys and had advanced functions for those times, allowing numeric applications and 10 special keys to help in writing and editing text, keep track of accounts and to store information and data.
The IBM PC did roaring business. By the end of 1982, sales of the PC became a system-a-minute every business day. This fueled the spark for the tremendous development that IBM has seen over the years.
There has been many improvements to the 83 keyboard layout ever since. With the advent of multimedia and the need for multi-tasking with PCs, special multimedia keyboards evolved. The 104 key-keyboard with the Windows keys at the bottom is specially adapted to be used with MS Windows operating systems. The multimedia keyboards also have keys that help adjust volume control, play/ pause, allow you to open your e-mail, put the computer on standby and so on.
