Computer Forensic History
The study of extracting, analyzing and documenting the evidence of findings from a network or computer system is known as computer forensics. Normally, computer forensics is made use by law enforcement officials in order to probe more evidence for any criminal trial. However, computer forensics is a little new, as it was founded in the 1980s, and when compared to other uses in computers, it is still in its infancy stages. |
When personal computers became a necessity for many users; the forensics of computers began and a program by the FBI was created known as Magnetic Media Program. This program still exists although now it has been rechristened as the Computer Analysis and Research Team also known as CART. Shortly after this the person who was instrumental in being the pioneer of computer forensics, Michael Anderson, founded a computer forensics firm called New Technologies Inc. Michael Anderson has also been termed as the Father of Computer Forensics. Thus, began the training session after 1988 to train new SCERS (Seized Computer Evidence Recovery Specialists) after the formation of the IACIS (International Association of Computer Investigative Specialists).
After nearly two decades of computer forensics the uses for it are more these days as the advancements of technology has grown and criminals are using computing methods to gain access and breaking the law with each passing day. The importance of computer forensics has come into the foray and new methods are being devised every day to cope with new crimes that seem to be the call of the day.
