Computer History Full Timeline
From just being devices for language processing and to calculate mathematical principles; computer have come a long way and have become an integral part of everyone's life. The history of computers goes a long way and it has been a time line of operating systems, software and hardware that have made it what it is today. |
Time line of computers can go way back to 2400BC when the very first abacus was invented and it set the path of computing; well that is how it all started. In the year 1614, John Napier created the system of movable rods that made use of algorithms to carry out the basics operations of mathematics. In 1622, William Oughtred created slide rules and it was only until 1822 that Charles Babbage invented the very first mechanical computer The first digital electronic computer was invented by John V Atanasoff in the year 1937 and later along with Clifford Berry they brought out the ABC prototype in the year 1939.
The introduction of the electromechanical Z Machines in 1941 by Konrad Zuse was a huge leap in the evolution of computers and in 1943 Colossus was able to decode messages in German. In 1968, the very first mini computer was launched by DEC and was called the PDP-8. The next 10 years saw a series of evolutions and newer versions of the computers were developed including the portable computer and by 1979 there were more than half a million computer users and it leaped to more than 10 million in 1983.
From then until today, the computer has been evolving and has become the extended part of everyone's life.
