Disney Computer Games History

During the early stages, Disney Interactive was more a developer rather than a publisher and even marketed its games for selected platforms on its own. It also established alliance with other gaming-developers such as Sony Computer Entertainment, Nintendo, Capcom, Activision, Ubisoft, Square and Konami and since Disney was dealing for the masses, it also published and distributed interactive entertainment software based on all its cartoon characters.

Disney's association with computer-animation happened with the making of the movie "Toy Story" where fun and seriousness were combined together to create a winning team. Disney has been known to entertain the kids for ages and it did not come as a surprise when Disney launched into computer games. Disney games appeal to both young and old alike. Even the movie The Lion King was made into computer game. It was followed closely in 1995 with Toy-Story and Disney incorporated the existing computer software business with Disney Interactive that was founded in 1994.

The year 1998 saw new computer games from Disney like A Bug's Life which was centered on the ant's character known as Flik. The year 2003 saw Disney Interactive being hailed as the producer of the highest quality children and family-oriented computer games however; things soon took a turn for the ugly when a swear-word was found on a computer game which was meant for three years and above. Parents were shocked beyond disbelief as Disney was always meant to be free from this type of stuff and centered their work for children and for the whole family. This was soon overlooked with the introduction of other computer games that appealed to all.

Now we have PSPs, gaming consoles and hand-held gadgets that are in vogue however; it has not stopped Disney from being popular in computer games since many still prefer play Flik or Cinderella or even chase around in cars.
