History Of Dell Computer Corporation
Dell Computer Corporation was started way back in 1984 by Michael Dell. It started as simple computer sales. From here was born the simple concept of understanding the needs of customers and designing computers to suit these needs. The direct selling concept was unique to Dell way back in the 1980s. |
They eliminated the need for middlemen. This allowed Michael Dell to make special computers designed specifically for the user.
In 1985, Dell built the first computer system with its own design. This was also the year that it achieved the historical event of being the first company, to send a technician to the customer’s house to solve problems. As early as 1986, Dell released the industry’s fastest computer, a 12 MHz, 286- based system. By 1990s, Dell had established its reputation as a market leader.
In 1989, they announced their first notebook. And by 1990s, they started innovations in desktop technology. The desktop product line, Dimension and then later Otiplex became standards to reckon with for other manufacturers. By 1993, Dell was officially considered one of the top five computer system makers across the world.
In 1996, they revolutionized the concept of sales by taking it to a new level. According to company figures, Dell earned approximately $1 million per day just by launching their official website. By 2000, they had also launched E-support to provide online technical assistance to customers. Thus was born the Dell Call Centre Unit.
It was also during this time that Dell started their line of servers to enter the network storage market. The PowerVault series was its line of storage system products invented as a part of the data center innovations of Dell.
