The computer jump drive also is devoid of any moving parts and hence, there is no need for it to use power. It is the line in innovation from earlier methods of data transfer such as the floppy disks. It is available depending on the storage capacity required; in MB or GB.
The USB flash drive has been sold over the years by various companies under different brand names. The IBM Flash Drives began selling as early as 2000. Trek Technology, a Singaporean company sold it as the “Thumb Drive”. IBM marketed the products called “DiskOnKey”, manufactured by M- Systems. This was an Israeli company that was owned by Dov Moran.
The USB flash drive was invented by Dov Moran, CEO of MODU and Ajay Bhatt of Intel. Dov Moran is an Israeli engineer, who founded MODU. They invented MODU, a cellular device which finds use in other machines. He is also the chairman of Tower semiconductor and Biomas. This is a biotech company. Ajay Bhatt, who has been made famous by the Intel ads, is an Intel Fellow and Chief Client Platform Architect in the company’s Mobile Platforms Group. Bhatt has also played a part in developing other technologies such as Accelerated Graphics Port, PCI Express and Platform power management architecture.
