Who Invented The Computer ?
The history of the modern day computer dates back several centuries. Many innovations along the years have made it possible for the evolution of the modern day computer. Although Charles Babbage is generally considered the Father of Computers, it is also believed that a man called J.H. Smith in 1782 was the one to actually visualize the first version of the difference engine. |
This was an engine which used the decimal numbers system to work on. The improved version of this, built by Babbage himself was called the Analytical Engine.
Nevertheless, there is still dispute in the history of computers. The first ‘modern’ computer is believed to have been built by a German engineer, Konrad Zuse in 1941. It was called Z3. It was the first electromechanical digital computer worldwide. It is also said that the first electronic computer was designed by John Vincent Ansoff. It was named the Anatasoff Berry Computer or ABC.
In 1943, the ENIAC or Electronic Numerical Integrator and Calculator was developed. It was the first electronic general-purpose computer. After this, it was the UNIVAC or Universal Automatic Computer that was manufactured in mass production. Its inventor was Remington Rand from USA. It was sent to the US Census Bureau in 1951. Compared to its predecessor ENIAC which used 160 kW of power, UNIVAC used only 125 kW of power.
But it was after all the microprocessors that paved the way for the development of the personal computer. Thus, evolved computers which could be used by small businesses and even individuals with ease.
