Women have played an important role in several fields of academic discipline and many have emerged winners. They have also been there in computer science, and some of them have been recognized worldwide for their efforts in the field. |
Meg Whitman is one of them who has been associated with eBay since March 1988. This popular online auction site has grown over the years into a 9,000 strong workforce. In 2004, Fortune Magazine named Meg as the most powerful woman in business.
Carly Fiorina has enjoyed a long stint with Hewlett- Packard. She was the CEO of the company from 1999-2005. Fortune magazine named her as the most powerful woman in business from 1998-2003. At present, she is the director of Revolution Health Group and is also a member of the board of Cybertrust which is huge computer security organization.
Shafi Goldwasser is a theoretical computer scientist and she has also received the Godel Prize twice. At Massachusetts Institute of Technology, she is the RSA Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. The fields of research that she has explored are: complexity theory, cryptography and computational number theory.
Anita Borg has been associated with the Institute for Women and Technology (IWT) as the founding director. This institute initially had the support and funding of Xerox. Her vision was to make more women scientists, encourage non-technical women to enter the design process and help the industry, the academia and the government to increase the pace at which these changes took place.
