A computer crime and security attack can happen on anyone's computer and that is why information technology experts keep advising people to assess the threats and risks constantly. However, in order to assess security threats and risks, you first have to understand the correct measures that you need to apply.
The Computer Security Institute, also referred to as CSI, reported that the average annual loss by US companies in 2007 was $350,424 compared to 2006 when it was $168,000. Evidence also shows that financial scams are higher than virus attacks and this is the reason why many people and companies in the US suffer from financial loss.
With regard to computer crime and security attack, CSI further reported that many companies in reality suffer from internal threats and risks like workers and employees misusing the internet to access websites that are not relevant to work including accessing sites for pornography and pirated software.
We have to understand the people perpetuating these crimes and attacks are growing sophisticated by the day. And, this is creating a problem as the measures we use might not be up-to-date to handle computer crimes and security attacks. Even a home computer can be used for cyber crimes and attacks and that is why appropriate security measures in the form anti-virus and firewall should be adopted. In addition, these security measures should be regularly updated so that they can be current and tackle the problem accordingly.
