Basic Computer Hardware
We all know that the computer is a machine which can be programmable and that there are two basic types -- analog computer and digital computers. The former are also known as analog devices and can present to you irrational or fractional values how they appear rather than rounding it off. |
The digital computer makes use of two types -- positive/ negative, high/ low, on/ off and they represent the digits of the binary zero and one. Physical parts that you can touch and feel is referred to as basic computer hardware and there are several different components that make this up. As we know that each computer has four basic functions to carry out: inputs, processing, output and storage and to perform these functions, it needs the assistance of a device.
Just as one requires the assistance of the mouse or keyboard to input or feed data or a processor is required when processing some data, likewise every function requires the support of another device. All these types of devices can be felt and touched and they form the basic computer hardware. Output devices like printer, monitor, speaker etc gives a type of output. Like the monitor gives visual output, the speaker gives audio output and the printer get you the hard copy of an image or text that you see on your monitor.
Storage devices are the RAM or ROM that are found inside your cabinet and there are also buses both internal and external that connect these devices with one another to make sure data gets transferred smoothly.
A few commonly used buses are data bus, system bus, address bus, memory bus, cache bus and I/O bus. The other types of storage devices can be the compact disks, floppy disks, which were famous some time ago, and the DVD.
