Examples Of Computer Hardware
Computer hardware includes all those physical parts of the computer that we can touch, see and feel. Ideally, there are two parts of a computer and they are the hardware and the software. Hardware is the tangible part of a computer. There are many components and examples of hardware. A few common ones include the keyboard, the monitor, and the CPU or the central processing unit. |
The keyboard is the most common Input device. Through this, instructions are sent into the computer. These instructions are then processed by the computer and the results are displayed on the monitor, which is the output device.
If we look at the main hardware component of a computer, it is the motherboard. Without the motherboard, the computer cannot run at all. The motherboard consists of the CPU, the chipset, RAM, the BIOS, and External Bus Controllers.
The chipset is that component which acts as an intermediate component; allowing communication between the CPU and other parts such as the main memory. The BIOS, which stands for Basic Input Output System, is that part of the computer which consists of boot firmware and power management. Through the internal bus controllers, one can connect the CPU to various components and also allow for the expansion of graphics and sound cards.
A few examples of removable hardware devices include the compact disc or CD drive, the CD ROM drive, the CD writer, and the Digital Versatile Disc or DVD drive. Today’s modern multimedia computers also have provisions for connecting another hardware component, which is the USB flash drive.
