What Do Computer Hardware Engineer Do ?
There is a great demand nowadays for Computer Science and Engineering courses and programs among aspiring students. This is driven by the recent advances in the computer and information technology industry. Computer engineers may be of two types -- computer hardware engineer and computer software engineer. |
Computer hardware engineers are responsible for carrying out research, designing, developing, testing and of course being in charge of the overall installation of the hardware. In fact, in a way you can compare hardware engineers to electrical engineers. The only difference is that they work with computers. They work with the keyboards, modems, computer chips, printers and so on.
To be a computer hardware engineer, one must have Bachelors’ degree in computer science to be eligible for a job. As an engineer, you should have good knowledge of Math and Science. Only then will you be able to excel. In addition, the engineers are required to have good analytical and problem-solving skills. They should also have a level of curiosity and the ability to listen, understand and communicate well.
As per the statistics of 2006, 50 percent of all computer hardware engineers earned between $69,500 and $111,030 per year. The lowest percentage earned less than $53,910 while the highest earned not less than $135,260. Computer hardware engineers get to work in the computer and electronic product manufacturing industry, the systems design industry and industries where computers are used.
There will always be a good demand for computer hardware engineers, as the computer is becoming more and more essential for activities and operations. However, whether this demand will increase to a very great extent is a debatable issue.
