Who Invented The Dvorak Keyboard ?
The Dvorak keyboard was invented by Dr August Dvorak, and it has been named after him. It was invented in the year 1936, and ever since people have adapted to it. Even today, it is one of the most popular keyboards to be used. |
Initially, it t was slow to catch up and at that time QWERTY was more popular. Also one of the main reasons was that the QWERTY was the only keyboard available for typists.
Dvorak was a Czech composer, and he found that if they keys were to be logically arranged on a keyboard, then a typist can type in much faster. It also increases the memory for the user about the keyboard. The layout of the Dvorak keyboard is extremely simple and the 5 vowels that are commonly used are placed under the home fingers or the fingers of the left hand. AEIOU occur almost in every word or at least one of them is used.
Several tests have shown that a typist can type at least 20 times faster on a Dvorak keyboard. The fingers can easily navigate on this type of keyboard. Whereas in the QWERTY the fingers are sometimes searching for the letters to type and this reduces the typing efficiency. However, then long term effects of the Dvorak keyboard has not been studied.
Given the fact that most people learn on the QWERTY keyboard, they still find it easy to type on a Dvorak keyboard when introduced to it. The learning advantage that Dvorak gives you is it automatically increase the speed by 50 percent in your learning stages and the curve of efficiency gradually goes up as you learn it further.
