How To Link Cable Modem To Adsl Modems ?
A cable modem is a modem that can keep you connected to the internet for 24 hours a day through the regular telephone line and you can use the telephone also simultaneously. An ADSL modem is based on the asynchronous digital subscriber line. You can connect a cable modem to an ADSL modem, or router through Ethernet cables, or wireless cards. |
You will have to install the modems a drivers and software required to run it first and then start configuring them. You will need all other details of the ISP like the IP address and if you have static IP address, then you will need the number. You will also need other details like the gateway address and the DNS server names. Have this entire information ready on a piece of paper before you get started with the connections.
When you look behind the modem, you will see two types of jack on the cable modem. One is for the telephone line and the other is for an Ethernet cable. When you look behind the ADASL router you will see two to three or four Ethernet ports and one WAN port. Keep two or three Ethernet cables with you. Connect the telephone line to the cable modem. Now run an Ethernet cable from the WAN port of the cable modem to the wan port of the ADSL router. Then connect the Ethernet cable into one of the numbered jacks. Get into the network set up of your computer and set up the ADSL router buy giving all the details you have on the list. Once everything is set up, restart your computer and you are ready to connect to the internet.
