How To Setup Adsl Modem Router ?
ADSL is now the preferred technology for broadband connections in several countries across the world. There are several advantages of suing the ADSL technology compared to anything else. People now use their own routers instead of depending on the router provided by the ISP, and now they have the option to switch to any service whenever they want. |
Setting up an ADSL router is not at all difficult and is a simple five steps process.
You will need a telephone line which has to be connected to the telephone jack provided and this, in turn, to the router. Connect your computer to the router using an Ethernet cable. These cables are thick and usually come in yellow color. Connect one need to the wireless card on your desktop computer. Laptops will have separate jacks for Ethernet cables on the side. Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to the Ethernet jack of the router. Usually they will have more than one slot on the back. Now you will need to take the CD that came with the router and install the drivers and the software required to run it. Once the drivers have been installed your computer will ask to restart. Go through the entire procedure. The router set up will automatically start when you have restarted the computer.
You will need some details from the ISP like DNS server’s names, IP address and gateway name. These are simple numbers in the format of xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx usually. You need to give the numbers, and also choose the other options that the router software might ask. Make sure your telephone line is free of disturbances. Once you have configured the entire set up, the computer will ask to restart. Once you have restarted, you can launch the browser and connect to the internet directly. You can also configure the wireless settings if your computer has a wireless card. Most laptops will have wireless cards.
