Setting Up Home Computer Network
The simplest form of network connection is the one that you can set up between two computers in your own home. This connection is useful for sharing files, applications, and other network resources. |
Setting up a computer network in your home requires the use of a cable, which should connect both systems. The cable used can be a special-purpose USB cable, else it can be a null modem serial cable else it can be an Ethernet crossover cable. Most often, the Ethernet cable is used as it offers a reliable, high-speed connection.
The configuration process is not too difficult and you can quick set up a network through it. If you want a less expensive cable connector, you can try out serial and parallel cable. These cables are also referred to as direct cable connectors and they work pretty much just like Ethernet cable, except you cannot get the same speed. Furthermore, it can be used to connect only two computers and nothing more. USB Cable is also a good option, but these are limited in their functionalities as they can be used only if your system does not Ethernet network adapters.
Once the cable connection is done, it is necessary to configure computers in the networks for communication purposes. Instead of establishing connection through a cable, you can also use a central fixture such as a hub, router or switches to carry out the connection. Here computer are not directly connected to one another as in the cable connection. They are indirectly connected through the central fixture.
Home computer network can also be established through wireless technologies. The technologies that can be used for wireless communication includes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and infrared.
